What happens when 40 of the Western world’s most innovative thinkers in their respective fields; met with the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of almost 500,000,000 Buddhists, to discuss the world’s problems and how to solve them? The 40 includes artists, scholars, physicists, astronomers, business leaders, doctors and authors.
This documentary, produced and directed byKhashyar Darvich, and narrated by Harrison Ford, provides a view of the 5 day meeting. What transpired was unexpected and powerful. The meetings with the Dalia Lama, and the trek to his residence tucked away in the Himalayan Mountains of Northern India, were captured by an 18 person crew. The journey and meetings, results in 140 hours of video, giving us a powerfully cinematic 80 minute documentary.
The grueling journey through the spirited culture and colorful land of India, the values of community, home, family, money, material possessions, are filmed. In making the hard trip through India in the rainy season to a place where the power went out every five hours, director Khashyar Darvich says, "Everyone has the ability to make the world better. The only way this film was worth all the time and effort was to have it serve humanity and the world."
Long after it ends, the totality of the documentary lingers, as one contemplates the fact that, if every human being decides to act in the best interest of human kind, we can change the world…
