English director Paul Greengrass excels in two varied genres and styles of filmmaking, and has become one of my favorite directors in each. In the docu-drama genre, which he directs and writes, are his films “Bloody Sunday” (2002), a dramatization of the Irish civil rights protest march and subsequent massacre by British troops on January 30, 1972, and “United 93” (2006), which presents the September 11, 2001 events of the fourth plane that was hijacked.
The action adventure genre, particularly the ‘Jason Bourne’ films based on the Robert Ludlum books, have become signature films for Matt Damon as well as director Paul Greengrass, and are my favorites of the action adventure franchises.
