Based on the popular TV series (1963-66), “Astro Boy”,set in futuristic Metro City, begins when a brilliant scientist's (Nicholas Cage) young son dies. Distraught at the loss and his guilt of being too absorbed in his work while his son was alive, secretly uses the positive ‘blue’ matter element and creates a powerful robot child in the image of the son he has lost.

For the scientist, its not the same as a living son, and the robot/child, unable to understand or fulfill the grieving scientist's expectations, embarks on a journey to spend time with other robots who’s primary purpose in their creation is to serve humans. While away and in search of acceptance, the boy robot experiences betrayal and a milieu of robot treatment, and, friendship.

When Metro City is threatened by an alien race that uses the negative ‘red’ matter to turn the robots of man against us, the robot boy, now called Astro Boy, decides to use his incredible powers to become a world famous super-hero, return to save Metro City, reconcile with the father who had rejected him, and use his incredible powers to face his biggest challenge, defeat the alien race that threatens Earth!

“Astro Boy” is a movie that presents lessons in friendships, family, and even throws in a few thoughts on how government and science can find a peaceful co-existence in the world of Metro City and the future when robots are a part of our normal, every day lives. Funny, I thought twice just now when my computer told me in its familiar voice that I have new email arriving. Science and technology, its all around us, glad its on our side, at least for the time being!

Starring the voices of Freddy Highmore, Nicholas Cage, Kristen Bell, Nathan Lane, Samuel L. Jackson, and Eugene Levy.

Directed by David Bowers; written by Timothy Harris; Rated PG for some action and peril, and brief mild language; Summit Entertainment release. Runtime: 94 minutes.
